Texturing for a vintage look

In the coming weeks, I will be showcasing some before and after series. For this week, we start with the recent photo I posted in John + Lydia. The photo I took below was at the entrance of the church where the ceremony took place. The lighting was quite dim with only side lighting from the entrance. That helped to keep the background dark and less distracting. As the wedding theme was vintage, it makes sense to edit the photo to give it the vintage look.

I used a couple of texture layers from Flypapers Spring edition. The fun part about texturing is you never know what you will get till you try it. No magic formulas to follow…just the flow of your own creativity. To some extend it feels like painting with the capability to undo any mistake. The finish photo on the right is how I would imagine vintage to look like.

John + Lydia || Sneak Peek Wedding Photos

Sneak peek of John and Lydia’s wedding photos. Such a lovely couple to photograph. Starting at the ceremony at St Mary’s Catholic Church and ending with the bridal party shoot around the vicinity of the Old Government House, Auckland.

Camera+ for iphonegraphers

I have been using Camera+ as my default camera app on my iphone 4S and I must say it’s amazing! It helps that the 4S takes amazing photos but Camera+ just tops it off. The edits you can do after taking the photo is superb. From exposure adjustment, white balance, crop, effects and borders. They didn’t just stop there, the best part of taking photos on your mobile is the ability to share it instantly to facebook, twitter, flickr and email. Now I just need to find a way to upload it to my blog.

I took these photos out in the garden and applied the HDR effect. The effect is amazing and I totally like how the photo was processed. I must say it was rather quick for HDR, thanks to the dual core chip in the 4S.

One good feature of the app is the ability to focus and set the exposure separately. You need to use 2 fingers for this, the first is for the focus and if you touch again it will set the exposure on the area selected. Great feature for high contrast scenes where you don’t want the camera to adjust exposure to middle grey.

The following photos shows this result and with the help of HDR, sky and shadow area are clearly visible.

This is must be our first middle eastern christian wedding. It was great to photograph Sarmad and Sama as they became one at St Mary’s Catholic Church. It gave us an opportunity to meet fellow christian community.

Sneak Peek – Sarmad + Sama Wedding day

A sneak peek into Sarmad and Sama wedding day. Just like the day before, the weather wasn’t playing nice. Nevertheless, that didn’t dampen the mood inside St Mary’s church on 18 Dec. It was a lovely church wedding and the newly wed looked fantastic. We will release more photos soon.

Sneak Peek – Jawdat + Raghad

Here’s a sneak peek on Jawdat and Raghad wedding photos held 17 Dec at the lovely Cassels. The venue was just amazing and a photographer’s playground. It was a pity that the weather was acting up and we couldn’t have the ceremony at gardens. Nevertheless, it did stop long enough for us to capture some beautiful photos of the newly wed. Featured in My Wedding Mag

We are proud to be featured as Shot of the Issue in My Wedding Magazine‘s summer issue. The photo is also our award winning photo at the recent NZIPP IRIS Award 2011. The lovely couple themselves (Mazen and Hiba) are featured in the magazine and describes more about their special day as it unfolds.
