Fearless women will always rise - Lorretta

FEARLESS WOMEN WILL ALWAYS RISE

I’ve always been a staunch wāhine, fiercely proud of who I am, where I come from, and my ability to achieve. I ran a successful business, raced classic cars at Meremere Raceway, and dare I say, looked hot in an ankle strap stiletto – I felt invincible.

However, after a failed marriage and a serious breast cancer scare, this sense of invincibility came crashing down around me. It was a big slice of humble pie which caused me to reassess what was truly important in my life. My two incredible daughters, 2 and 9 years old, and my new desire to embrace the world of natural health – I wanted to become a Naturopath and Medical Herbalist!

This would mean three-and-a-half years of study while working a part time job and raising my girls - I was really bloody scared!

But knowing I came from a long line of fearless women, and had the support of my children and friends, it helped me face the anxiety and focus on these loves. It was not the easiest time in my life, but since graduating in 2007, I have not stopped working as a naturopath and natural health advisor here in N.Z and around the world.

My daughters are now adults following their own dreams and aspirations, and I hope, should they ever find times difficult, that they can draw on that same sense of fearless that I discovered within - thanks to all the fearless wāhine who came before me.
